How to Apply

Steps for International Students

For admission consideration as a degree-seeking graduate student at WVU, the applicant must:

  • have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • meet English Proficiency or request conditional admission and complete an Intensive English Program (IEP) application (see English Proficiency)
  • meet the criteria established by the degree program to which you apply
  • be accepted by the academic department

The above are minimum University standards. Specific degree programs frequently set higher standards and also may set additional requirements, such as the submission of standardized test scores or letters of recommendation.

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA

NOTE: Materials from applicants are retained alphabetically, under the family name, as indicated by the applicant on the International Student Admission Application. It is important that all forms, records, and correspondence use the same name and spelling. Your name needs to be as it appears or will appear in your passport. Contact the academic department for further information. In some cases, it may be possible to consider applicants who lack adequate TOEFL or IELTS scores. Such applicants must enroll in the WVU Intensive English Program prior to beginning their academic program.
