What are the requirements to apply for Nursing at WVU?

University Requirements

To be eligible for admission into a graduate program at WVU an applicant must submit official, bachelors degree transcripts from a regionally accredited institution and hold a GPA of at least 2.75.

WVU operates decentralized admissions. Decentralized admissions allows each graduate program to set its own application requirements in addition to the University requirements.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the Nursing graduate program an applicant must submit the following documentation:

  • Letters of Recommendation - Three
  • Résumé /CV
  • Masters Degree Required
  • Statement of Purpose

Additional application requirements include:

  • Transcript of a nursing degree at the baccalaureate level or higher from a nationally accredited nursing program or equivalent.
  • A Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. A Master's degree in a health related discipline will be considered.
  • A grade of “B” or higher in graduate statistics and research methods courses.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.25 in Master's degree work. -Read about the research focus of our faculty. Select one or two faculty with whom you are interested in working based on their research focus and explain how your interest aligns with the faculty members' area of research, referring to their relevant publications. Essay should be submitted in APA format and cover the following areas: preparation for doctoral work (background), why do you want a PhD (how does a PhD fit in your career plan), personal/academic strengths and weaknesses, research area of interest, and current/long term goals.
  • Provide an example of graduate work (if available).- Interview to determine congruence between the applicant's career goals and program objectives and between the applicants research interests and those of the faculty."

Only applications with all completed requirements will be considered for admission.
