What is University Teaching at WVU like?

Description

Earn a credential that affirms your commitment to teaching in higher education and provides you with skills to design and implement effective learning experiences in post-secondary contexts, while also be ready for other aspects of careers in higher education.

The Certificate in University Teaching is a 12-credit hour program for graduate students, designed to prepare students for future work teaching at the college or university level. The certificate program can be completed in as little as 1 year, as you complete your graduate major at WVU.

In this program, students integrate ideas from the discipline of their graduate degree with ideas on effective instruction, assessment, curriculum, and contextual issues in higher education — all while allowing opportunities for reflection as well as planning for future roles in higher education.

To be eligible for the University Teaching Certificate, you must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at WVU — inclusive of master's and doctoral degree programs — and must also meet degree standards for your program.

What are the requirements to apply for University Teaching at WVU?

University Requirements

To be eligible for admission into a graduate program at WVU an applicant must submit official, bachelors degree transcripts from a regionally accredited institution and hold a GPA of at least 2.75.

WVU operates decentralized admissions. Decentralized admissions allows each graduate program to set its own application requirements in addition to the University requirements.

To be eligible for admission into the University Teaching graduate program an applicant must submit the following documentation:

Additional application considerations:

  • You must be enrolled in a graduate program and in good standing (meeting the minimum GPA for your graduate program). You may apply to enter the program at any time.
