This hour-long seminar is targeted for students who would like to learn strategies on how to more effectively comprehend complex written passages. Ideal attendees would be students preparing for various admissions tests in graduate and professional programs, such as CARS portion of the MCAT and the reading comprehension portions of the LSAT and GRE. Attendees are encouraged to bring materials to take notes regarding strategies and resources available to them. This seminar is free and will be led by doctoral students in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Personal Statement Writing Workshop

This hour-long, free workshop is aimed to help students at all stages of writing their personal statements for graduate or professional programs. The first twenty minutes of the workshop will feature a guest speaker with experience in the post-secondary admissions process as she explains common errors or “red flags” that admissions committees see in applicants’ personal statements. The remainder of the workshop will be split into working groups dependent upon which stage of the writing process students feel they are in: planning, writing, or revising. We will have discipline-specific resources to provide students applying to health programs and academic programs, and the session will be led by graduate and undergraduate tutors from a variety of disciplines. Students are encouraged to sign up  here but registration is not required.
