What is Materials Science and Engineering at WVU like?

Description

Materials Science and Engineering is designed for students with undergraduate degrees in engineering or a closely related STEM discipline.

Research focuses on the study of metals, ceramics, glass, polymers, semiconductors, composites, nanomaterials and biomaterials to be implemented in a variety of applications including energy, civil, industrial and environmental. The area of study is diverse and multidisciplinary, since it incorporates aspects of chemistry, physics, electronics, mechanics, biology and medicine.

The program will provide students with opportunities to investigate various aspects of materials science and engineering, which includes the processing, structure and properties of materials through computational modeling and/or experimental studies.

What are the requirements to apply for Materials Science and Engineering at WVU?

University Requirements

To be eligible for admission into a graduate program at WVU an applicant must submit official, bachelor’s degree transcripts from a regionally accredited institution and hold a GPA of at least 2.75.

WVU operates decentralized admissions. Decentralized admissions allows each graduate program to set its own application requirements in addition to the University requirements.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the Materials Science and Engineering graduate program an applicant must submit the following documentation:

  • Letters of Recommendation - Three
  • Résumé /CV
  • GRE
  • Statement of Purpose

Additional considerations for applicants:

  • An applicant for admission into the M.S. degree program must have earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better (out of a possible 4.0) in all previous college work from an accredited or internationally recognized program.

  • GRE is required for International Applicants.

Certain application requirements may be waived based on a preliminary review of an application by program.

International applicants must also submit required materials for international applicants.
