What is Nursing at WVU like?

Description

Baccalaureate prepared nurses can obtain a master's degree in nursing through our Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program which is offered primarily online. The MSN program can be completed in 46 credit hours. Upon completion of the MSN requirements, students will have the ability to sit for advanced practice certification. Specialty tracks prepare students to certify as pediatric and family nurse practitioners.

What are the requirements to apply for Nursing at WVU?

University Requirements

To be eligible for admission into a graduate program at WVU an applicant must submit official, bachelors degree transcripts from a regionally accredited institution and hold a GPA of at least 2.75.

WVU operates decentralized admissions. Decentralized admissions allows each graduate program to set its own application requirements in addition to the University requirements.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the Nursing graduate program an applicant must submit the following documentation:

  • Résumé /CV
  • Statement of Purpose

Additional application considerations:

Applicants for the FNP/PNP programs must have: • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a nationally accredited nursing program and regionally accredited institution, • An overall GPA on all college work attempted of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale,
• A minimum overall nursing GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, • Completion of 3 credits of undergraduate applied statistics (ie. STAT 211) with a minimum grade of a C or better, • 3 credits of health assessment with a grade of C or better, and • Evidence of an active, unrestricted RN license in at least one state at the time of application.

Applicants for the MSN/MBA programs must have: • Two or more years of professional, full-time work experience,
• A Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from a nationally accredited nursing program and regionally accredited college or university, • A minimum nursing GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, • A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all college work attempted, • Evidence of an active, unrestricted RN license in at least one state at the time of application, and • Completion of 3 credits of undergraduate applied statistics (ie. STAT 211) with a minimum grade of a C or better.

Only applications with all completed requirements will be considered for admission.
