The Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Art provides additional training for art teachers. This field offers new professional opportunities to art educators who are trained, knowledgeable, and versed in therapeutic art concepts and technical skills within their teaching practice in the PreK-12 classroom.

What are the requirements to apply for Therapeutic Art at WVU?

University Requirements

To be eligible for admission into a graduate program at WVU an applicant must submit official, bachelors degree transcripts from a regionally accredited institution and hold a GPA of at least 2.75.

WVU operates decentralized admissions. Decentralized admissions allows each graduate program to set its own application requirements in addition to the University requirements.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the Therapeutic Art graduate program an applicant must submit the following documentation:

  • Résumé /CV
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Letters of Recommendation - Two
  • Essay/Writing Sample (Contact a Graduate Program Representative for a Prompt)

Additional application considerations:

  • Writing sample needs to be submitted to https://wvuart.slideroom.com/. Please contact the program representative for further information regarding the portfolio requirements.

  • To be considered for admission, the applicant must have a bachelors’ degree in studio art, art education from a program accredited by NASAD with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Applications that are incomplete or are submitted after the deadline may be reviewed if openings remain
